Tau Theta History |
|---|
Judy Upchurch Davis, worked closely with Dr. Cutlip and his wife, Mandy, on the founding of Tau Theta. On March 22, 1965 a petition was submitted to him which marked the beginning of Tau Theta. November 20, 1965 was the founding of the Tau Theta Chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity at William Woods College. Once founded, Tau Theta was located in Sweringen for two years then in Serena Hall. At this time there were only three sororities. Serena Hall was chosen because it was the first house you saw when entering the campus and it seemed like the most prestigious because you had to pass by it to reach the other two sorority houses. Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Phi were once located where Phi Gamma Delta and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternities are located today. After the founding, the women had to go through pledgeship to learn about the history and traditions of Chi Omega before they could be initiated. For initiation women from our founding chapter in Fayetteville, Arkansas and from the University of Missouri chapter conducted the required ceremonies. In the mid 1980s the house moved to Bartley Hall as a temporary move while Atkinson Hall was renovated. In 1992, Tau Theta moved into Atkinson Hall where it resides today. |
